In this documentary premiere, local storyteller Boots Lupenui goes on a search for old and unrecorded songs of Kohala and their composers. Funded in part by the Library of Congress, he uncovers the stories behind their songs and how each composer has been shaped by the storied land that nurtured them. Boots captures these “heirloom songs” from the composers themselves and their families, learning about the musical journey each composer has taken and how Kohala itself has shape their songs. The whole program culminates in a delightful, local-style “jam session” which finds all the composers getting together and playing each othersʻ songs, celebrating their beloved home, Kohala.
