In this modern retelling of a nursery classic, Caldecott-winning illustrator Richard Egielski adds an urban twist to a well-loved tale. This time, the gingerbread boy is on the loose in New York City, and he taunts everyone from construction workers to subway musicians, until his fateful chase through Central Park!
The work features brass instruments as characters in the story. The piece displays the individual characteristics of each brass instrument, for example with the tuba - low range, singing quality of the upper middle range and as a driving rhythmic pulse, the trombone - the use of the slide, the horn – singing quality, stopped sound, and a romp, the trumpets - range, techniques, different mutes, etc. in a fun and enjoyable way.
