Nā Pua Pasifika - Episode 2: Uhi

Nā Pua Pasifika focuses on sustainability in Hawai’i Nei. Each segment spotlights one of five main food crops used throughout the Pacific Islands that can be key building blocks of food security for the state: ‘Ulu (breadfruit), Kalo (taro), Uhi (true yam), Kapioka (tapioca), and ‘Uala (sweet potato).
The second episode – UHI, features Lesili Sekona from the island of Tonga. Lesili is thought to be the largest Uhi grower in the state of Hawai'i and grows and distributes to most of the neighboring islands. After a tour of his farm Lesili hosts an imu with his family and friends so that we can demonstrate a few ways of cooking this delicious and sustainable food plant.
