Western Week In Honoka'a (Documentary)
49m
Dating back to the 1960's, Honokaa's Western Week is one of the most highly anticipated Big Island festivals of the year. The week-long celebration takes place every May in the former sugar cane plantation town known as Honokaa, located at the northern end of the Hamakua coast. To honor a century-old paniolo (Hawaiian cowboy) heritage, Honokaa serves up a unique cultural blend of rodeo sports, high-energy events, music, food, and education.
In this 49-minute documentary, local filmmaker Steve Roby takes the viewer on a journey of Western themed events with a distinctive Hawaiian flare. Roby illuminates the film's interviews with historic photos, rare memorabilia, and archival footage dating back to 1937. A boot-scootin' good time will be had by all.
